AI Overview Tracker

Check whether a live search result contains an AI Overview and inspect only verified source URLs.

This tool checks whether a Google AI Overview appears for a query and which sources it draws from. The useful output is not whether you are in it — it is which pages Google considers answer-worthy for that question, because that set is what you have to displace.

Read the source list, not the presence flag

Whether an AI Overview fires at all varies by query, by session and by day, so "no overview today" is weak evidence. The stable signal is the composition of the source list when it does fire: documentation, forums, listicles, or vendor pages.

That composition tells you what kind of page can win the slot. A question answered mostly from official documentation will not be won with a blog post, however good it is.

AI Overviews and answer engines are different surfaces

A page can be cited by Perplexity and absent from AI Overviews for the same question, and the reverse happens just as often. They retrieve differently. Tracking one and reporting it as "AI visibility" overstates what you know.

Our paid audits probe OpenAI web search, Gemini grounding, and Perplexity separately and score cross-engine consistency as its own component, precisely because agreement between engines is rarer than people assume.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the AI Overview appear for a query one day and not the next?
Google triggers overviews per query and revises the trigger set continuously. Absence on a single check is not evidence the query never produces one — repeat the check across days before concluding anything.
Does ranking #1 in Google get me into the AI Overview?
Not reliably. The overview source set frequently includes pages outside the top organic results and omits the #1 result. They are separate retrievals.
Is an AI Overview citation worth anything if nobody clicks?
It is worth what a mention is worth: the source list is where the click can happen, and being absent from it removes the option entirely. Measure it as share of the source set, not as traffic.
