AEO Glossary

Schema Markup (Structured Data)

Schema Markup is structured data code added to webpage HTML that helps search engines and AI systems understand the meaning and relationships of your content.

Schema Markup is one of the technical foundations of AEO. It uses standardized formats (JSON-LD) to tell search engines and AI systems what your page content is — whether it's an article, product, FAQ, or business entity.

Particularly important Schema types for AEO include: FAQPage (frequently asked questions), HowTo (how-to guides), Organization (business information), Product (product information), and Article. Proper Schema markup can increase your chances of being cited by AI by up to 40%.
